The spot in question is lovely and I (a Madison park resident without waterfront property of my own) would certainly like to take advantage of it in this short summer!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4450061648126809792.post-59417249186682523822011-07-03T00:38:08.963-07:002011-07-03T00:38:08.963-07:00To the above poster.....it probably wouldn't b...To the above poster.....it probably wouldn't be hard to guess which waterfront address is yours!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4450061648126809792.post-85516339952401017902011-07-02T17:30:45.778-07:002011-07-02T17:30:45.778-07:00To the poor person whose family is being deprived ...To the poor person whose family is being deprived of a waterside picnic because this property is being rented from the City, you need to get real. There are no fewer than eight public-access beaches within two miles of the property in question. Save the drama for the stage. It is so much easier to resolve real issues without it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4450061648126809792.post-50807377907024841632011-07-01T09:31:51.764-07:002011-07-01T09:31:51.764-07:00This should either be accessible by the public, or...This should either be accessible by the public, or if the city deems it too expensive to maintain for public access, sold in the market to the highest bidder.

To the first comment - since when is it the city's mission to rent properties to millionaires?

And if the city insists on continuing to own it and rent it out, why not rent it out via an open bidding process? Maybe there are even richer people who would be willing to pay more for access to that space.

These non-market deals just stink for everyone. Surely the venture capitalist who is benefiting from this situation can agree to that.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4450061648126809792.post-73941310487244458732011-06-30T15:59:22.853-07:002011-06-30T15:59:22.853-07:00This is public land. We pay taxes in order to have public right away's and freedom to take advantages of parks and public right away's. Surprised that this has not caused more fan fare...

To the first poster-- I beg to differ--- shall we just give all the parks to the rich who happen to live next to them to detour crime. BRILLIANT!!! Please-- As for the former lady who owned the land and used to turn sprinklers on families to detour them from using PUBLIC land, what read her obit- everything about giving money to the arts and improving arts by raising money- all pretty much fell on silent ears after hearing she took advantage of her fortunate shoreline living situation to chase of families who don't have the same opportunities to picnic waterside.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4450061648126809792.post-83437936054228420922011-06-30T09:33:48.891-07:002011-06-30T09:33:48.891-07:00So we should have no public access to the shorelin...So we should have no public access to the shoreline at all? They will have to maintain the land, police it (see un-related, but related stories about street ends and drug use and armed robbery), defend themselves against anything bad that happens on said property, etc, etc, etc. Currently, someone else is doing all of that for the City, while the City is getting paid for doing nothing (which it does best, by the way).

Bryan, what a great job you did in exposing this story about how more secluded places are needed in Madison Park to conduct drug deals, armed robberies, under-aged drinking and other illegal activities. Keep up the good work.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
